What are the French Truffles?
Truffles are delicate and rare edible mushrooms, mostly grown in Croatia, France, Italy, and Slovenia. They are also collected in the US states of Washington and Oregon. Truffles mostly grow underground between the roots of chestnut, elm, oak, pine, and willow trees, forming a symbiotic relationship with the environment. The high price for truffles is that mankind does not grow them commercially or cost-effectively.
Fresh truffles are a highly seasonal and rare product, expensive and hard to obtain.
